There are no bad pictures; that’s just how your face looks sometimes.

So I had an outfit post to share, however I had no help taking the photos.

I had no Gareth, no tripod, no remote and not much time! So I grabbed the camera and got my selfie on.

The result? An odd result.

I never ever ever… well very rarely do serious faces when having my photo taken.  I’m such a cheesy smiler :) Why? Well we all have ‘looks’ that we think we look better in, and those we think we look bad in.

And non-smiley photos are definitely in my ‘bad’ category.  Hmm no that’s not correct.  By no means do I think I look bad here… It’s just weird to see, and a well, odd.

In my opinion, generally when I take ‘serious’ photos, my face goes all roundy, my mouth goes how I describe as Homer Simpsony and somewhat pouty without actually pouting, and the fear of looking like I’m trying to pout is yucko. I just don’t think I have a serious face!

I have no idea what changed today but I felt like giving serious a go!

Alright here goes… confronting!! Serious!!

So they started like this… medium serious, slight smile.

I laughed quite a bit at just the thought of myself doing serious poses.

And them BOOM! 100% serious.  Right down the barrel. Zero expression, zero smile and zero pout! (despite appearances.)

I have never ever ever ever shared a photo of myself like that before.  It scares the heck out of me to be honest!  It’s so weird seeing myself like that.

We’re all so critical of ourselves, it’s so silly! It’s just how we look isn’t it?

Or as Abraham Lincoln put it – “There are no bad pictures; that’s just how your face looks sometimes.”

So true! Here’s me talking about mild pouts and Homer Simpson mouth roundness when really, hey it’s just how I look, and I’m sure to anyone else it’d just look normal, it’d look like me.

So from now on I’m going to try and stop over analysing silly things and just be me!  Not that I’m usually a serious posy person, my posts won’t be turning from smiley to serious any time soon, but I just won’t discard photos of myself like the ones above that I once would.

Unlike me, Betty always does serious poses.

Well that’s all from me!

Until my next post

You look like you’re barely suppressing your laughter in the first 2 photos. You make me laugh Trish! I was shocked to see this serious looking expression on you, because you always look so smiley, happy, silly/funny in your blog photos. I was a bit startled, but I thought you still look very pretty and lovely.

So true about the faces we think the best in photographs. I’m the opposite and tend to think I look better slightly serious then smiling!

I think you look seriously beautiful!

LOVE these pics! You look amazing :-)
I do hear you about the faces we wear. I can’t do the ‘semi serious’ cute smile. It either has to be huge grin or full serious. No inbetween. Definitely cant do that half open mouth things models do either – I just look like I have a few screws loose. Haha!
Its awesome when you get a chance to play and find new angles that work. I think your serious face works!
As for the pouty thing – my bf and other photographer friends say – relax the jaw…thats where a lot of tightness can be held when posing for portraits and its really hard to let go!
